On the shores of Lake Kariba is the Matusadona Wilderness region and then on the Botswana border, we find Hwange Game Reserve. South Africans - please note, these are luxury lodges and not budget camping sites. The prices are to give you a guideline as to the cost you will have to pay. There are specials at some lodges, in LOW SEASON, designed for budget South African travellers.

Chikwena Lodge - Lower Zambezi, Mana Pools

Chikwena Lodge in Mana Pools, Lower Zambezi Chikwenya is found in Mana Pools National Park, on a magnificent site running along the Zambezi River. Large herds of wildlife are found in this area, and it is also known as a photographer’s paradise. One can literally lie in bed and watch elephant and buffalo stroll past.

Bird life is superb in this bushland-meets-waterway experience, with countless species funneling through the thermals in order to be spotted by the eagle-eyes or binoculars of the eager birder. Breakfasts may be enjoyed outdoors under the shade of a mahogany, and dinners are often had on the deck under the milk-washed night-sky.

Chikwenya Camp in Mana Pools and Lower Zambezi wilderness areas, makes an excellent safari destination in combination with a number of other great safari lodges in Zimbabwe, like Makalolo Plains, Ruckomechi, Matusadona Water Wilderness, Vic Falls Safari lodge and even some of the lodges in Botswana, for the ultimate African Safari experience!

Makalolo Plains - Hwange National Park

Makalolo Plains lodge, Hwange Reserve, Zimbabwe Makalolo Plains is situated in a remote area within the vast Hwange National Park. It is one of the few camps built within this park, which is certainly the best area for big-game viewing in Zimbabwe, all year round. The entire camp is raised on wooden boardwalks and platforms, giving guests excellent views over the waterhole and floodplain in front of the camp.

Nine comfort-tents with en-suite showers, offers guests great accommodation. The delicious fare, is conjured up by expert in-house staff on a daily basis, for the enjoyment of this experience for our guests. Guests also have excellent camp hides overlooking the waterhole, preferring hours of endless relaxed viewing of the great and diverse African wildlife.

Makalolo Plains camp in Hwange Reserve, makes an excellent safari destination in combination with a number of other great safari lodges in Zimbabwe, like Chikwenya, Ruckomechi, Matusadona Water Wilderness, Vic Falls Safari lodge and even some of the lodges in Botswana, for the ultimate African Safari experience!

Matetsi Lodge - Vic Falls, Upper Zambezi

Matusadona Water Wilderness Lodge - Lake Kariba

Matusadona Floating chalet camp, Lake Kariba, Zim Closed due to Mugabe's idiotic regime!!

Matusadona Water Wilderness is a floating safari camp situated just off the shoreline of Lake Kariba, within Matusadona National Park in northern Zimbabwe. Arriving at camp via canoe is in the opinion of many, one of the best ways to arrive at a camp.

The camp consists of unique floating chalets, moored in a secluded bay. Accommodation is excellent, with each chalet having its own cool veranda with a superb view of the Park and Lake. Game is often seen from the rooms. The ‘mother ship’ – which houses the central bar, lounge and dining room, is found on an island-area in the vicinity, and is also reached by boat.Since it is so inaccessible via land, it has managed to preserve its untouched beauty. This camp provides great water-based and game-viewing opportunities.

Ruckomechi Camp - Mana Pools, Lower Zambezi River

Ruckomechi Camp, Mana Pools, Lower Zambezi Ruckomechi is found on the western boundary of Mana Pools National Park, within a large grove of Acacia and Mahogany trees, overlooking the Zambezi River. This provides for a superb view over the mountains of Africa’s Great Rift Valley.

The camp accommodates a maximum of 20 guests in classic thatched chalets, each with its own “bath with a real view” – a much utilised feature of the camp!.Ruckomechi offers diverse game activities and excellent bird-watching opportunities for the fervent ‘birders’. The water, of course, attracts a large number of water-life, bird-life and animal-life, which provide endless entertainment, as these creatures busy themselves about the water.

Ruckomechi does close seasonally between mid/late November & May each year - as it is situated in the Lower Zambezi Valley - where it gets extremely hot & humid and the summer rains make the roads almost impossible to drive on!
