Mara Serena Safari Lodge - Masai Mara Wildlife Reserve

Mara Lodge pool with view, Masai Mara, Kenya Perched on the saddle of a hill, the Mara Serena Safari Lodge has one of the most spectacular views imaginable across the vast plains, forests and rivers that make up the Maasai Mara – one of the world’s richest wildlife sanctuaries. It is on this very terrain that the annual migration takes place when millions of zebra, wildebeest and gazelle cross the plains below, on their way to the rich new grasses of the Serengeti. This is a spectacle that should be witnessed at least once in a lifetime.

The hotel has been designed to mirror a traditional Maasai village or Manyatta and all the guest rooms are located in individual domed huts grouped in a circular manner. The furnishings of each room have been inspired by traditional Maasai art and each one has a private balcony with views that stretch over the vast African landscape.

The lodge has a sky-blue swimming pool perched on the edge of the hill, a restaurant that overlooks a waterhole where wildlife gather and several treatment rooms where you can enjoy a range of relaxing massages.

From the lodge you can organize a safari by balloon: a truly breathtaking experience. Other activities on offer include bush barbecues, game drives, evening cocktail parties at the waterhole, watching the hippos and Maasai dancing.

Governors Camp - Masai Mara Wildlife Reserve

Governors Camp front lawn, Masai Mara, Kenya Governors Camp is situated on the banks of the Mara river in the west of the Masai Mara Game Reserve. Created in 1972, it set new standards in luxury as a tented camp, putting particular emphasis on comfort and service, complimented by the sort of good food which would have been impossible in the bygone days of the grand safari. Maintaining these unique qualities as a tradition, the camp has been refined and improved through the years. We have taken special care to preserve an atmosphere in which today's traveller can share the same elemental landscape that inspired Hemingway and magnetized adventurers the world over.

The site and size of a safari camp is critical to its vitality. Governors Camp, with its 38 tents set amongst the trees along the Mara river, also has unrivalled views over the plains and is visited and re-visited by guests who find its continued excellence, personal style and family feeling quietly reassuring. All guest facilities are under canvas and keep the authentic, traditional safari atmosphere. All guest tents have en-suite bathrooms with shower and basin, running cold and hot water as well as a flush toilet. Gas and paraffin lamps are used for lighting. Our privately located Justus Suite is perfect for honeymoon couples.

The dining, our open fire place and the bar tent are in the centre of the camp. Next to the reception is a small gallery with local paintings and handcrafts as well as a small souvenir shop. Breakfast and lunch are served buffet style in the open. Dinner is served in the dining tent. For dinner there is usually a menu with a choice of main courses. A traditional camp fire is lit at sunset every evening.

The Masai Mara is a unique area with a constant and unrivalled flow of wildlife throughout the year. From July to October the Mara becomes a backdrop for one of the last great natural wonders of the world, when 1.4 million wildebeest and zebra surge up from the Serengeti plains in their annual search for the seasonal grasses that sustain them. The spectacle as the vast herds cross rivers and sweep through the golden grasses, is punctuated by individual struggles with the predators, which are in turn drawn to take their part in this dramatic event. There are various activities on offer: game drives in open Landrovers, game walks or balloon flights over the wide plains of the Masai Mara. Day excursions to the Lake Victoria are also on offer. However, we recommend to book this excursion well in advance and combine the Lake Victoria trip with an overnight stay.

All meals, three game drives daily as well as laundry are included in our price. Park entrance fees, drinks as well as other activities (such as walking, ballooning, Lake Victoria excursion, a visit to a Masai village) are to be paid separately. Please announce special dietary requirements to us in advance.

Little Governors Camp - Masai Mara Game Reserve

Little Governors Camp, Masai Mara, Kenya In 1976 Little Governors Camp, with its own independent character, was built around a small watering hole that teems with birds and wildlife. The camp is reached by boat and the exquisite, romantic setting has a serenity all of its own.
Little Governors’ Camp casts its spell over all who visit, from honeymoon couples to Presidents. Intimate in character, there are just seventeen tents tucked away amongst the trees. From every veranda the view changes constantly as giraffe, elephant, buffalo, hippo and warthog all come to drink or graze. Getting here is an adventure in itself. You first have to cross the Mara River by boat, then a short walk through the forest escorted by guards.

All the tents are comfortable and tasteful. Each has an en-suite bathroom, hot and cold running water, even bidets. In keeping with safari tradition lighting is by gas and kerosene lanterns, or by candlelight. As dusk falls, the flickering lights in the forest make the Camp a peaceful and atmospheric place. Meals are our usual superlative standards, served, as is our style, outdoors during the day and in our candlelight dining tent by night. Come the evening it’s time for chilled drinks and tall tales around the blazing campfire. Then finally a delicious dinner and a hot-water bottle to keep you warm in bed.

Governors’ Ilmoran camp - Masai Mara Wildlife Reserve

Ilmoran camp of Governors tent, Masai Mara, Kenya Governors’ Ilmoran camp in Kenya is for those who want that extra bit of luxury. The camp comprises just 10 tents situated along the banks of the Mara River. This exclusive camp was formerly known as Paradise Camp and originally had 20 tents. The owner’s decision to reduce the size of the new camp is in direct response to their desire to preserve the surroundings and make a contribution to reduce the impact of tourists on the environment. This is the first time in the Mara that this has happened.

Ilmoran camp at the Masai Mara is hidden in the shadow of indigenous trees. The camp recreates the atmosphere of the original hunting camps. Each room is furnished to a superior standard. The beds have been hand carved from specially selected wood from fallen, ancient olive trees. The interior of each tent also includes a Victorian style bath, flushing toilet and double sinks. Each tent has a large, extended veranda designed so you can take your dinner in private if you wish. You will be the personal guest of the managers, who have a wealth of safari experience.

Game drives and game walks are included in the rate and complimentary wine is served with dinner. During the day, meals are served outdoors under the trees. For breakfast there are fresh fruits, cereals and hot-baked breads together with a full, cooked breakfast prepared before your eyes. For lunch, there is a buffet that will satisfy the hungriest appetites. In the evening guests can enjoy cordon-bleu dinners by candlelight in the elegant dining tent, deep in the bush. These are truly unforgettable experiences.

Loldia House - on a Ranch - Lake Naivasha, Kenya

Restaurant with butler, Loldia house, Kenya The Kenya of the pioneers was a land of expansive farms, carved from the highlands and the country around the beautiful Rift Valley Lakes. The early settlers were drawn by the virgin untamed land, in those days roamed by Masai herdsmen and wild game. With only rudimentary tools and teams of oxen, forests were cleared and fences established to open the land to herds of cattle. Although life was hard the settlers enjoyed an outdoor lifestyle, walking, riding and hunting amongst the profusion of animal and birdlife in the Great Rift Valley.

Loldia Farm was established by a settler who came to Kenya by ox-wagon after the Boer War and is still owned by the same family today. He was a renowned horseman who chose this beautiful corner of Kenya to enjoy all that was best in the early Kenyan Lifestyle. Nestling under the acacia and wild fig trees on the green western shores of Lake Naivasha, the present Loldia House was constructed by Italian prisoners of war from stone quarried on the farm. Built around a courtyard, its main archway frames a stunning view of the dormant volcano Mount Longonot.

The house is set in lawns which are grazed at night by hippos from the lake. Todays guest can savour the taste of this early lifestyle in Loldias uniquely peaceful setting. The farm is ideally situated to visit the flamingo lakes of Nakuru, Elementaita and Bogoria, one of the great spectacles of Africa. Lake Nakuru also offers excellent viewing of the Black Rhino and the more elusive White Rhino amongst an abundance of other bird and wildlife. Lake Bogoria is one of the few places where the rare and beautiful Greater Kudu can be seen. On the farms 6.500 acres, guests may walk or ride through herds of dairy and beef cattle and a flock of farmed ostriches, interspersed with impala, waterbuck and other plains game. Boat trips are also arranged on Lake Naivasha for fishing and bird watching, and visits can be made to Hells Gate National Park with its spectacular canyon, hot springs and abundant wildlife. Activities can be tailor-made to suit each guest.

Loldia offers the highest standards of cuisine and personalised service. The House Manager, Peter Njoroge, has been described in Englands Country Life magazine as ""probably the worlds best butler"".

All meals, activities mentioned above as well as laundry are included in our price. National park entrance fees to visited National Parks and drinks are to be paid separately. Please advise of any special dietary requirements to us in advance.

Bedroom at Mfangano Island Camp, Lake Victoria Mfangano is situated on the unspoilt island of Mfangano in Lake Victoria and occupies an entire secluded bay on the western shores of the island. This great lake has romantic associations as the source of the River Nile, ever since explorers such as Speke and Burton came to the area at the end of the last century.

Mfangano Island Camp, a small remote hideaway, is a perfect place to combine with your safari. It is only 40 minutes charter flight from the Masai Mara followed by a relaxing 15 minutes boat ride along the tropical shore line.

Each room is open to the lake and offers uninterrupted views and spectacular sunsets.

The centre of Mfangano Island Camp is the cosy sitting room and dining room, both are open to the lake shore and decorated in beautiful ethnic style. Here you can sit and listen to the waves, feel the breeze in your hair, read a book or watch the dhows on the lake. Birds sing all day. The cormorants dive for fish or spread their wings to dry in the sun and the fish eagles call from the treetops.

The meals in Mfangano Island Camp are superb. Fresh salads and the daily catch served with freshly made crusty bread made daily and chilled wine.

The lush hillside and Camp surrounds are abundant with indigenous plants and flowers. In the early morning, fleets of multi coloured fishing boats gracefully sail past the bay, and in the evening spectacular sunsets are seen as the sun dips below the unbroken lake horizon.

Governors Camp, by offering visits to Mfangano Island on Lake Victoria, provides a unique opportunity to see the colourful life on the lake, where enchanting Luo fishing villages have not changed in centuries.
